It's all about the money, honey.

I keep track of our money.
As if we had lots & lots.
We have multiple accounts, and I constantly move the money around.
Even if it's $10 here, $20 there.
I move it. And save it. And... hoard it.

I think, of all things I could hoard
(although... I do have some hoarding tendencies to discuss at another time),
money is a good thing to hoard.
I try not to spend it.

For instance, I'm not one to just go out and spend lots of money on just anything.
My purchases, for the most part, are planned and necessary and budgeted.

So speaking of budgeting I've been tracking our money, somewhat intensely, since July.
Every penny, any transaction, all bills, groceries, special expenses, trips, etc.
It's all recorded.
I'm talking spreadsheets and pie graphs.
Don't believe me?

We've found a system that works for us.
We have joint accounts: one checking & one savings.
We have individual accounts: his & her's checking and his & her's savings.
Some are linked to each other, and some are private.

I've come up with categories, and each time some amount of money is spent... I input it.

We've put a limit on our individual expenses.
We each take $150 each month to spend on ourselves.
So, if I want clothes, or to go out to lunch with friends, or basically do anything by myself or with someone other than Sean, that's the money I use.
I know it may not seem like a lot to some.
And to some others it may seem like a ton.
But you'd be amazed at what you can do knowing you have $150 dollars each month.
By the way, that's roughly $5 a day.

It's nice to see a visual of where your money went.
For example, back in July... Target basically needed its' own category.
Now, I only go there once a month.
We found lots of places we could cut expenses...
like the gym that I only ever set foot in to sign the contract,
or Netflix and Hulu which we rarely used,
or eating out 6 times a week.
Oh, yes... that used to happen.

I think it's important to talk about money.
Sean says sometimes we have it, sometimes we don't.
"Let's not worry about it".

And so... I watch the money.
I watch the numbers go up,
and inevitably back down...
but typically always back up again.

Thank goodness.
