I started planning fun, festive activities for December in October and November. Now that Christmas day is right around the corner, I wanted to show a little recap of what Christmas traditions & advent activities have looked like for our family. [More found here]. Christmas Traditions: The first Christmas tradition is of course -- the tree! We started off the month by picking out our tree, waiting a few days for the branches "to fall" and then we decorated! Javi LOVED decorating the tree and we only had one ornament casualty. :) Another Christmas tradition we continued was attending the town tree lighting ceremony at the beginning of the month. It was chilly and Javi got to see Santa and Frosty. And so began his … [Read more...] about Christmas traditions + a toddler Christmas Eve box
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! It's safe to say our halls have been decked! I started decorating just after Thanksgiving but it has taken longer than in years past. :) Not sure why... (ha) but here are some of our Christmas scenes. We picked up our tree from a local farm. Javi loved walking in between all the tall trees and he helped to choose the one we brought home! Next year, we're interested in cutting down our own tree. This year I couldn't make the trek through the woods. We've been so good about our advent calendar/activities! We haven't missed a day yet. So far we've gone to the town tree lighting ceremony, picked out a tree, decorated the tree, and tried a candy cane (among other … [Read more...] about Some Christmas scenes.
Now that Halloween is over, my eyes are on Christmas. This is Javi's third Christmas but the first one that he'll (sort of) know what's going on. I have a whole month of fun planned assuming baby #2 stays put until her Dec. 31 due date. It makes my heart so happy that stores are already decorated. I'm so looking forward to advent calendar activities, 12 days of Christmas and just a whole lot of Christmas fun as a family of three unless baby comes... and then as a family of 4. First up: Advent Calendar Activities: I picked up this advent calendar at Michaels. You can't buy it online but amazon has a similar one. I don't want to include a lot of candy or toys and gifts. So I liked that the compartments are little. We're … [Read more...] about Advent Calendar Activities + Christmas Fun.
Last weekend I was in a store and noticed they were getting ready for Christmas. Neither Halloween nor Thanksgiving were in sight. I'm not mad about this. I love Christmas! But it got me thinking -- what is Christmas like with a toddler? Last year, we vowed to keep Christmas about the experiences, the festivities and our family. We didn't want to overwhelm Javi with gifts so we recommended non-toy gifts and/or experience gifts from family members, too. Between Sean and I -- we instilled the 4 gift rule: a want, a need, something to wear and something to read. Those items all fit into his "Christmas Eve box". Then he got a small stocking (from Santa) and lastly 1 gift from us (a play-kitchen). He was incredibly lucky to also be given … [Read more...] about Non-toy gifts for toddlers.
To say that Javi was a fan of Christmas, would be an understatement. He was a loving, maniac all of Christmas day. :) He woke up at his regular time around 7AM. Our normal routine is to change his diaper, then go downstairs and I pour milk into his bottle, we sit on the couch together and watch Mickey. So when he walked into the kitchen, with both me and Sean... to an audience of Barb and Christine (who couldn't wait to see his face on Christmas morning!) he was a little confused and started to cry. He quickly realized his new kitchen set was all his and he was ALL about it the rest of the day. He is obsessed with his kitchen... and his pots and pans... and tasting the wooden spoons. It's so funny. Sean's family joined us for the … [Read more...] about Christmas, finally!
