In the past, I've shared a bit about the feelings and emotions I had after my first labor and delivery experience but I haven't outwardly shared about my struggles with postpartum depression. During my pregnancy with Javi, I did a lot of research about how to care for a newborn. We went to the classes the hospital gives, we read books, and blogs and talked to lots of people about how they successfully parent. We had a doctor lined up, his room was beautifully arranged and we had everything he could want or need. So I was surprised, when after delivery, I wasn't over-the-moon happy. I didn't feel ready. I didn't expect to feel so badly after delivery. And I didn't realize how long it would take me to physically feel like myself again. … [Read more...] about Postpartum Depression & what I’ve changed from baby #1 to baby #2.
Last night my contractions were awfully close together and quite frequent. So I thought it would be a good idea to pack that hospital bag that's been taunting me. It could be a bit premature since I, technically, could stay pregnant for another two weeks -- and I don't have too many clothes that fit. This is why I've been hesitant to pack up until this point. But, I think it's finally time. I thought it also best to share what I'm leaving behind (or not bringing) and what necessities I plan to have at home for postpartum recovery. Some disclaimers: Personal items -- I will obviously bring my purse, with my license and insurance information. My doctor also gave me a newborn packet I need to fill out (for a birth certificate and a social … [Read more...] about Maternity Hospital Bag: What I’m bringing & leaving behind + Postpartum necessities to stock up on!
Oh, pregnancy. Tomorrow morning, I'm going to my 37 week non-stress test. I'm really hoping that they'll say "oh! you're in labor!" and send me to labor and delivery. (ha!) I'm not sure how likely it is that will happen but a girl can dream, right? As I'm nearing the end of my second pregnancy, I'm feeling nostalgic. So I've set aside some time to put into words the similarities and differences between my first pregnancy and my second and I'm sharing some fears, too: Pregnancy Similarities: Babies are amazing and when it's YOURS?! I can't even explain it. Both pregnancies had a level of excitement that can't be measured. My first was MY FIRST! I'm excited for my second because of the prospect of giving Javi a sibling. PLUS I found … [Read more...] about Pregnancy: First VS. Second – Similarities and Differences plus 6 Fears.
// maternity jacket // I'm officially on maternity leave! The pregnancy app on my phone told me that I'm 9 months pregnant (like I don't already feel it -- especially when we do or go anywhere!). Since Lola is nearly full-term I thought it'd be a good time to share all the current products that are getting me through my days during this 3rd trimester. Now that I'm home, most of these are getting a lot of use! Oh, and if you live somewhere cold -- invest in a maternity jacket. It's the best. My 3rd trimester must-haves: Chapstick - This is my favorite and I use it a hundred times of day because winter and pregnancy are doing a number on my lips. Water bottle - Water intake is so important to keep those pesky "fake" (YET TOTALLY … [Read more...] about Oh Baby: 3rd Trimester Must-Haves.
So... we've been holding onto a little secret! We're expecting a baby (due New Year's Eve!) and it's a baby girl! We're so excited and it's been killing me not to blog about it. When I was pregnant with Javi I didn't blog often (though I revealed the news much earlier along) but it was more because it was all so new and I didn't want anything to go wrong. Of course, that's always a worry -- but this time was more because I've been busy, the doctors are watching the baby's heart for some concerns AND my work didn't know yet. Since my social media and blog are public I thought it would be weird to post here. I'll be 20 weeks on Saturday and I'm definitely starting to show so it was time to share the news on social media and here and I'm … [Read more...] about Exciting news!
I was certain he was going to come early so imagine my surprise when September 15th rolled around (one day after my due date) and I was still very much pregnant. Luckily, my doctor had already scheduled my induction for September 19th so I saw the end in sight. We were very excited (and eager, too -- we tried to convince labor and delivery on the 15th that I was, in fact, in labor... they sent me home with assurance that "one day, they'll let me stay!") and on the 19th, at 7AM we finally got to the hospital -- certain he would be here very soon. I think I was a little naive. Though in the grand scheme of labor stories, mine isn't too, too long.I'm not sure about the timing, the medications, or the processes of things. All I know is that … [Read more...] about Javier’s Birth Day.
