A few weeks ago we were looking at Javi and said to each other, wow he needs a haircut. Unfortunately, we had to keep putting it off because of the having a newborn at home thing. But FINALLY last Saturday we got him into the barber shop. We're really lucky because Javi loves getting his hair cut! The first time we went he sat in Sean's lap but since then, he's had 3 more cuts, and each time was even more successful and exciting than the last! He loves going there, sitting in the chair, and even more, loves telling people after the fact that he got a haircut (and then he looks down and points to the top of his head as if the person he's talking to can't see that his hair is short). Lola joined us on the outing (her first one other … [Read more...] about Toddler: Haircut!
Happy Halloween! I'm so disappointed that Javi refused his costume! It was such a long day, with so much traffic getting home from work. We rushed through dinner to get out to trick-or-treat and then... flat-out refusal from a 2 year old. He would not wear it. Not the lion. Not the Mickey. He wouldn't even put a foot inside. Not even after seeing other kids in their costumes. He couldn't be convinced, or bribed (yep, I sunk that low) and he definitely didn't care when my tone changed and my words basically said "put this costume on right now". He stood his ground. And went out in his glow-in-the-dark Mickey pajamas instead. (major eye roll). What I learned from my first Halloween with a toddler: He probably should have picked out … [Read more...] about Our Halloween.
If you've been keeping up on my facebook or instagram page you'd know that our toddler is sick. Well, you've heard me mention it because if you're watching my instastories -- you're probably thinking that guy is NOT sick. He's running and jumping and singing and dancing and leaping off furniture! Otherwise, just being a toddler? ha. But sadly, he has strep throat and I took the day off to be with him. As much as I can be... because I'm also a bit under the weather with this whole pregnancy thing and desperately trying to NOT add strep throat into all that I already have going on. These are some things that have been helping us survive the day and hopefully not spread this illness around to our other family members. Some favorite … [Read more...] about Surviving with a sick toddler.
Javi didn't sleep well last night. He was restless, coughing and sneezing. So when he woke up this morning, I thought it was best he stay home from school. He kept saying, "Mama, I sick. Mama, I so tired". Very luckily, my mom and dad were home to receive him so I could still go into work. His energy level was high and I was told I was played by a 2 year old! Apparently, he wasn't sick at all! He was so well, in fact, that my parents took him out for the day and he spent most of his "sick day" at the EcoTarium! Javi's been to the EcoTarium once before. It's an indoor/outdoor museum complete with interactive exhibits, live animal habitats, play spaces and a train! Need I say more?! Time well spent at the … [Read more...] about The EcoTarium.
Last weekend I was in a store and noticed they were getting ready for Christmas. Neither Halloween nor Thanksgiving were in sight. I'm not mad about this. I love Christmas! But it got me thinking -- what is Christmas like with a toddler? Last year, we vowed to keep Christmas about the experiences, the festivities and our family. We didn't want to overwhelm Javi with gifts so we recommended non-toy gifts and/or experience gifts from family members, too. Between Sean and I -- we instilled the 4 gift rule: a want, a need, something to wear and something to read. Those items all fit into his "Christmas Eve box". Then he got a small stocking (from Santa) and lastly 1 gift from us (a play-kitchen). He was incredibly lucky to also be given … [Read more...] about Non-toy gifts for toddlers.
On Saturday, we spent our day at Southwick's Zoo! It's close to our house and Sean's family was visiting. When we started brainstorming about how to spend a family day together, Southwick's Zoo made sense! Here are some photos from our day at the zoo! Sean wasn't feeling well so he stayed back. But Javi and I joined his brothers, my sister in-law and his mom for lunch at Galliford's and then an afternoon among the animals. Javi's favorite animals are lions. Every time he'd would walk up to a cage he would say "no lion" and frown. When we finally made it to the lions (!) he was pumped! But they were sleeping and not active (cats!) and we had to make their ROAR-ing noises ourselves. :) // steve madden shoes // marc jacobs bag // … [Read more...] about Our weekend at the Zoo.
